A beautiful hike among the swiss dolomites ;D or something close to it!
The Gastlosen Is an impressive mountain chain located between the canton of Fribourg and Bern.
You can start the hike by driving to Jaun, the only german speaking part of Canton Fribourg!
From there, a road (if open, mostly during summer) will bring you up to the Bärghus am Musebergli
From there you will have two options!
– Counterclock wise, walk direction of the soldier hut and wolf pass
– Clockwise, walk to Gastlosen hütte – if you do it during fall / winter, it’s a preferred route as you will be on the sunny side both ways.
The hike will take you around 4 h for 11 km. As the path was half muddy, half completely frozen when we visited, we took 5hs (including lunch break). One section will be quite impressive (the Wolf pass) as you will be on a narrow edge. Overall the hike is beautiful and the landscape definitely impressive.
One highlight that is worth discovering (depending on the season and time you will visit) is the “Grossmutter loch”. This natural hole in the stone wall will let the sun pass through and give rise to beautiful light effects. Definitely something you can add on your trip list.
You can find the “Grossmutter” schedule here and More info about that hike here
