The Reichenbach Falls

Beautiful discovery and mild hiking difficulty, appropriate for families with kids!

The Reichenbach Falls are located in Canton Bern, in Meiringen. These waterfalls have a spectacular drop of 250 m and propagate a mist cloud around the reception!

You can reach the top by Funicular and either hike all the way down or go back the same way.

Alternatively, you can walk all the way up.

We chose the version to go up with the Funicular and hike down along the waterfall. There are 3 hiking paths:

–        One that brings you down the same side at which you arrive. You will not walk over the waterfall

–        One that makes you walk over the waterfall (30 min) to reach the restaurant and walk down along the waterfall (I would say another 30 minutes but that depends on weather conditions. That option is not for everyone as some sections are wet and slippery.

–        The last option follows the same start to the restaurant and then a hiking trail down that will not get very close to the waterfalls and will take you 1h

We picked option 2 as we were here for the waterfalls.

The hike is not very difficult. Some parts are wet and slippery though. We adjusted our trajectory to stay close to the river, which means that at some point we had to follow the car road instead of the hiking trail. At the end we arrived as expected at the starting point.

Overall the place is beautiful and will take you a couple of hours only.

One way up is around 8 CHF, two ways are 12 CHF.

You can easily combine that with Aareschlucht (in the area, right across the road roughly) or a visit at the St. Beatus Caves (closer to Interlaken)
