Ferpècle, a hike among larch trees and glaciers

This hike is family and kids friendly.

You can drive all the way to Ferpècle, park the car and start to walk up to the glaciers.

The hike takes you about 30 min to 1 h to reach the bottom of the glacier. Aside from the first 100 m which have the most elevation gain (and when I say that, it is really not much), the rest of the hike is relatively flat.

The place is quite beautiful! You will walk among larch trees and along glacier rivers.

When you leave the forest, a wide valley will open in front of you. That valley is really beautiful, with light grey sand and stones from the glacier and whitish water.

The valley splits in two and you will see two glaciers, one on each side.

If you have enough time, you can also walk up to the old “Bricola” hut which will give you a better vantage point over both glaciers. However, this walk is way more tenuous and requires around 2h at least.

Photography notes: end of October, the sun is right above the mountains and hits directly your lense. You also will have a narrow time between shadow and light right in your lense.

Want to extend your journey? Combine it with a visit a the Blue lake of Arolla!
