Difficulty: moderate / difficult
Duration: 11 km – 5h 21 min
You can start the hike at Montreux city or at Haut de Caux. We chose to leave the car in Haut de Caux and walk straight up to Dent de Jaman.
This first part is the most difficult as it is a pure elevation gain all the way up to the top of Dent de Jaman.
Special care must be taken during the ascent of the actual summit. It is quite steep and rocks tend to fall while people hike up. Very few people actually pay attention which is a problem.
after a short break at the top we walked down towards Col de Bonaudon. This part is quite smooth but can be a bit complicated till Mai because of snow. After a well deserved break, we innitated our hike to the Cave entry (Grottes de Naye). This part is quite challenging. There is still a lot of snow till late Mai and the slope is quite steep. Be very careful. The entry of the cave was still covered by snow when we arrived. Only a very narrow passage allowed us to enter it. Once inside, the walk up the cave took around 15 min.
Make sure to take flash lights, good shoes and warm clothes. it is very cold inside the cave and there are some narrow passages.
This section is not for everyone and should be considered twice before wandering into the cave.
There is an alternative passage way to get around the cave. Once we reached the cave, we walked the remining trail to Rocher de Naye. that section has two possible tracks: one along the ridge and one through the valley.
To close the loop, we went down through « La Perche » all the way to Chamossale, the crossing point that will put you back on tracks to ge to Caux
