The region of Dents du Midi offers multiple hiking excursions!
In this post we will discover two hiking destinations located on the north face of the Dents du Midi mountain.
Both hikes start more-or-less at the same place and depending if you have a car or not, can be adjusted. If you have a car, you can take the road “Route des Rives” and skip the first part of the hike between the train station and that road.
The map below shows the parking lot (1) for Lac Anteme and (2) for Lac de Soi

The first hike itinerary will bring you to the lake d’Anteme, a beautiful mountain lake with a stunning reflection!

That itinerary is a 6h round loop of 16.2 km and with an elevation gain of 1241 m
Next to the lake there is the Cabane d’Anteme which was closed when we visited the place.
What is very nice with that hike is that the way up is really different from the way down! The way up is really steep while the way down brings you along rivers and makes you even cross a small bridge ;D
The place is filled with sheeps which gives a nice touch to your journey!
If you are lucky, you will see a Glacier at the top, on your way to the second small lake! It was really impressive but please be cautious if you want to venture below the ice mass!

The second lake is the Lake of Soi. As opposed to Lac d’Anteme, this is not a round loop and you will follow the same path down to reach your car. Alternatively (and I didn’t try that option) you might be able to join the lac d’Anteme and go down that way. To be confirmed – if you do, let me know!

If you come by car, you can reach the starting point by following the Route des Rives a bit further and park your car at the parking lot.
This is also a 6h hike for 11 km and 1042 elevation gain. As for the Lake d’Anteme, the hike up starts very steeply and you will basically only follow a curvy road upwards.
The hike gets a bit flatter when you reach Signal de Soi, a mountain summit that offers a 360° view!
From there on, the hike is a bit smoother and you will reach the lake in around 30 minutes.
We went there in June and there was still snow, some parts of the hike were covered so you might be careful when you try to cross these snow patches.
The lake itself feels like heaven! What is really particular and gives that place a magical touch is the fact that “humans” decorated one side of the lake with flat stones so that the place looks like vestige of ancient ruins. You have multiple small pools built along the river that fill the lake. If you are brave enough you might even take a swim there =)
As we were not alone and I didn’t have my swimwear I didn’t venture inside (I didn’t want to scare people away ;D )
The way down follows the same path and brings you back to your car.
