I guess it’s the right place to start reviewing as it is also from where I got my profile image ;D
Summary:
Best Time: June to September
Van d’En Haut to Salanfe – 2.9 km, + 550 m up , 1h30
Salanfe to Mont Luisin – 4.6 km, + 945 m up , 2h30
This hike is quite nice as it is divided in 4 steps (which you repeat as you need to get home at some point!)
Everything begins at Van d’En Haut, close to Salvan (Switzerland) the first part of the hike is a steep 1.3h hike up to reach the lake. Reaching that first plateau opens a jaw dropping view on the lake of Salanfe, the Dents du Midi (Massif du Chablais), Tour Sallières and Mont Luisin.
You will also find the nice Lac de Salanfe mountain retreat where you can eat and sleep.
The hike to Mont Luisin is a nice choice as it offers you a panoramic view of all the surrounding mountains including the famous Massif du Chablais.
Continuing our hike, the second section follows the lake for a while before hitting the third ascent to the Col d’Emaney. This hike goes nicely up, follows some rivers and might have snow and ice depending on when you decide to go up! We actually went there in July and part of it was still covered by snow! Be careful as it is very slippery.
Reaching the col d’Emanay, we take the left hiking trail to Mont Luisin. This one is marked as high mountain trail, the first part makes you climb some stones on a steep ridge which might make you consider twice your choice ;D but hey, it’s safe, we did it and it’s worth it.

Once this tricky part crossed, the way to the summit is relatively simple although it looks impressive because of the steep face you hike up!

What I loved is since that part of the hike is less frequented, we literally came across families of mountain goats which gave that place a magic touch.

The top, as I already said, is just totally worth it! The view will make you sit there a while and I strongly recommend to take something to eat and take-in that view!
